I teach advanced technology to 8th grade students in California. Our school is a high-poverty, yet highly achieving middle school. Our students are expected to learn real life skills in technology. We are a public school with an emphasis on technology throughout the curriculum. The cameras we use are for a variety of academic assignments. The technology teachers at our school collaborate with other core subject teachers.

With these supplies we can triple the hands on time for our students while increasing quality. We have 5 digital cameras for our students to use. The tripods will be used to film the movie scripts written by our students. The tripods will also be used to reinforce concepts like point of view and time and distance images of our rocket and car projects for math and science. We teach them skills in basic to intermediate photography and video skills.

Currently, we have a backlog, when the students use the one SD/memory card the camera has to upload their photos and videos to the computer while the other students are waiting for the first student to be done uploading. With the two types of memory cards and card readers the students will continue to produce quality work, without waiting.

Our students are from various backgrounds and economic situations. Most of them receive free or reduced lunch. Students choose to come to our school because it is an excellent opportunity for them while being a technology magnet. We are receiving no funds this year to support our technology. Please contribute and make a difference to our students.
