I teach sixth grade general music class. We have revamped our curriculum so that by the time our students are in general music they are reading, playing, and performing music in different types of ensembles. One of these ensembles is for the students to create their own "rock bands." My hope in this unit is that students who are not normally drawn to music will find the desire to learn music in the higher grades.

My hope is that this change in curriculum will provide students with a valuable life experience that will encourage them to further their study/interest in music.

We need a guitar, a bass, and a drum set to make this happen for our classroom. Many of the students do not have these available to them, and would be unable to do this unit without them. This would be a valuable experience for them that they will remember throughout their school career.

Your contribution will help to turn students to music who aren't normally drawn to the subject area. Several students who dislike music class do not relate to classical music, or playing typical classroom instruments. You can help these students see that what they have been learning all along is where the music they listen to now has come from.
