I teach students in Texas using American Literature. In a college town, I have students whose parents are professors and students whose parents work as maintenance workers on campus.

Many of the 120 students who I talk with in class daily can provide for themselves just fine. However, a growing minority cannot. I want to offer fresh, exciting material to my students, but only have so many books on the shelves in the book room currently to choose from.

We need 30 copies of Marilynne Robinson's novel, Gilead, to allow me to present a new novel format. Gilead is presented as a letter from an elderly father to his young son. It provides exciting teachable moments as well as several unique lessons. I'm excited about the conversations that could come from reading this novel with my students!

Your money will provide the copies for my students who can't go out and get a copy from Barnes and Noble or even a resale shop like Half Price books. While I explain to the majority of my students that they need to go out and purchase a copy, I can see them awkwardly squirm as they wonder if anyone else has figured out they can't come up with the few dollars for an English book. You can help solve that problem. I want to teach my students the lessons brought so clearly to light by Gilead, but without copies to check out, that can't happen. Please help me make this a reality.
