Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At our School, a high number of our student population is considered socioeconomically disadvantaged and thus are allowed access to free/reduced meals. I believe “Every child deserves an amazing education no matter who they are, no matter where they come from,”

We have been teaching Mathematics, Science and PLTW for a few years using hands-on co-curricular learning programs that expose students to key STEM concepts including design-process thinking and problem-solving perseverance, but we don't really have enough materials for kids to really build their designs.

My Project

There’s nothing like the feeling of building your first working robot, and Arduino makes it a possibility for all students to have this experience.

My Students will learn how to make an arduino robot with different functionalities.

They will learn the use of different programs for different functions, mainly a smart phone controlled robot with Obstacle avoider, wall follower or maze solver robot etc or for a single function. With the Arduino Robot, students will learn about electronics, mechanics, and software. It is a tiny computer on and it is a powerful robotics platform that you can hack to perform all sorts of tasks. Students will program the audrino microcontrollers on their robots after they connect the motor controllers to the motors and wire the circuit. Most all of the knowledge my students gain with Arduino will transfer to other programming languages, computer usage, electronics and other micro-controllers. They can then create their own designs and watch them come to life.
