We have tried several different Reading Programs with our students. The majority of the First Grade Class is succeeding with these Reading Programs. However, there are a few students that still are not progressing at the rate in Reading as they should. We are determined not to give up on these students. I have been given the opportunity to help these students succeed at Reading. I would like to give them a more hands-on approach to Reading. First, I would like them to use the Lip Sync Cards which shows them how the sounds should be formed with their mouths. Second, if my students can see the High Frequency Words and Blends, Digraphs, & Vowel Pair Tiles up close and manipulate them, they can see more word parts and learn to recognize these words. The more words students recognize, the more students can read and spell with confidence. The tiles will not only help improve their Reading skills, it will also help improve their Writing skills. Third, the Four Block Poems for Shared Reading is filled with the High Frequency Words (also known as Sight Words) that are found in our daily reading. The more students see and read these words, the more words they will have in their personal Word Bank. The Four Block Teacher’s Guide will provide me with more hands-on activities that I can use with these students. You donation will not only help my current students, it will also help future struggling readers. If we can reach these students in First Grade, they will have more success in the Upper Grades.
