Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are in desperate need of high-interest reading material to keep them reading! I teach 7th grade English in a high-needs district. My students range in ethnicity, reading level, interest, and ability, but using books that they all can relate to will inspire them.

My students lack the desire to read. As a teacher, I NEED to change that. They will go far in their lives, but they need to live up to their full potentials. Increasing their reading level will do this for them. The way to hook the students into reading is to give them a novel that they WANT to read!

We would love to have 30 copies of Sharon Draper's book Tears of a Tiger. The book will benefit students with its use of relevant teen issues, drastic conflicts with the characters, the use of male and female narrators, and the fact that the book is written specifically for teens will benefit them greatly!

Funding this project will give my students a reason to READ! Look around the country today and you will see a great deal of struggle. Let me help my students combat that struggle by giving them opportunities to increase their reading ability and ultimately giving them a greater chance of success in their futures. Our children at this level are greatly influenced by the adults in their lives. This is a chance to help them grow and achieve in the future.
