My students need 2 buckets of nonhardening modeling clay to complete a science project.

I work with a wonderful group of students in Northern California. I teach 4th Graders and they are very interested in learning about cells of plants and animals. My students come from a neighborhood where many homes are in foreclosure. I teach students that are living with friends and other family members because they don't have a home of their own. My school is a regular Elementary School with great diversity. The students I work with come from low socio-economic backgrounds.

The kids are ready to make plant and animal cells! We are studying cells of animals and plants. The students are ready to take the lesson further by making a copy of a plant and animal cell. Unfortunately, our school doesn't have any modeling clay for the students to use to make their cell models and they can't afford to ask their parents to buy it for them.

I need to have nonhardening modeling clay so that my students can create their examples of plant and animal cells. By letting the students do this project, they will have a better understanding of what a cell looks like and what the different parts of a cell are like as well. Students will feel success with this project because they will be creating the cell themselves and the clay will give them the freedom to create without fear of failure. By using different colors of modeling clay, the students will pay more attention to the details in each cell.

Your help will enable my students to take their learning out of their textbook and apply it to real life. You will make it possible for my students to enhance their learning using materials that they have no access to at home or otherwise. By helping with this project, these kids will go one step further with their scientific study of cells and therefore, increase their comprehension even more.
