"My students attend school in an impoverished neighborhood where the needs are high and the services are few. In their community every day brings new challenges and yet every day they show up, ready to learn. They are a daily inspiration for me.
One of the biggest challenges we face is a lack of money for basic supplies. My students are avid note takers and they love practicing their math work at home, yet many of them lack the most basic of supplies like pencils to do their work with. While we do our best there are students in my class who simply can not maximize their potential because of a lack of supplies.
We need pencils so that the students can participate in class and do their individual work at home. With these materials the students will be able to focus on learning and not where their next pencil will come from.
Your help will change the lives of my students by making math a simple and fun everyday activity. Who knows, maybe the next great American mathematician will be formed in our school because of your contribution.
My students need 200 boxes of pencils (12 in each pack) for math class.
The cost of this proposal is $522, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ."
When I was a kid we had a drawer in our house that my mother kept fully stocked with extra school supplies. Any time I needed anything we would open the drawer and there it would be. Unfortunately these kids don't have a drawer full of supplies at their house. Most of their parents struggle to just give them the most basic supplies, so when they run out of something they will get nothing more.
However, because of you I was able to give students markers to use in class. They also used them to make some amazing math displays. You donation has made a real impact in the lives of my students and for that I say Thank You. Thank you for your selflessness.
With gratitude, Mr. C.

Dear Sara, Ellen, Ruoming, Lynette and Wachovia,
Thank you so much for the pencils you have donated. One often forgets about how important the little things are in a child's education. Because of your generous donation the lack of basic supplies will no longer hold back my students learning. Your gift will make the start of class run more smoothly and will make those who don't have the most basic of supplies, like a pencil, feel like a normal kid. Your gift will have a huge impact, so once again thank you.
With gratitude, Mr. C.
On Oct 8, 2009, Mr. C. followed this note with student letters sent via mail to the donor who completed this project, and to donors who gave $100 or more.
Reviewed the project essay and sent follow-up questions if needed.

"I gave to this project because...We are without incomes due to recent lay offs and know the need for necessities and All children should have the basic supplies for a proper education."
