Simple Machines Rock!

My students need 4 sets each of K'NEX Intro to Simple Machines: Levers and Pulleys and K'NEX Intro to Simple Machines: Wheels, Axles, and Inclined Planes.

My classroom consists of 19 learners including me. I teach in an inner city school in Virginia and my students are the best. However they come to me with varying gaps in their learning. Most, if not all learn much better when they are able to use their hands to touch items that teach them what they need to know.

My students live in a high poverty area and we are a Title One school. We have the basics we need to teach, but little that is flashy or fun. I believe my students would fly to their true level using materials like these.

My children use rulers to make levers and straws and cookies to make wheels and axles. While these ideas work, they are hard to use, especially if you want the children to duplicate their results. The truth is that these simple machine kits are so much like toys that the children will not even realize they are learning.

You can make it possible for my children to be successful in many ways with this donation. Simple machines is a third grade objective, but I believe that understanding how they work will benefit my children in their daily life. They can be powerful tools to teach cause and effect as well.
