My wonderful 135 students are very interested in ecology. Our state standards have also changed to expand our requirements for teaching ecology and the environment. The kids are excited about it and want to learn about our planet and its ecosystems.

In this economically depressed area our school district is in fiscal crisis at this time. The school science budget was drastically cut this year, and the school and my students cannot afford most of the supplies we require to be successful in the new ecology unit for biology and honors biology classes.

My students need an introductory ecology video on Biomes to be used for my presentations to the class. To actually see what is happening in the various biomes and ecosystems, and the human impact via pollution and rain forest destruction will have a huge impact upon my mainly visual learners. Then, to learn energy movement through a food web, I would like a poster that I and the students can frequently refer to, as this will keep them focused on why the predator prey relationships are so important, and why if the base of the ecosystem collapses, various living forms on earth, including humans, could be greatly impacted, if not become extinct. Finally, a CD on Population ecology will drive home the point about the various biotic parts of an ecosystem, and how predator - prey relationships can vary over time. Again the base of the food webs and chains, including humans will be emphasized in relation to our species. I believe the interest level will improve even more than it is now with these materials.
