Fine Tune Our Fine Motor Skills

My students need a No-Mess Sandbox and silicone sand to improve fine motor skills.

The K-5th grade autism students in my class are in a high-need community. We do not have the funds to provide the safe sensory items that my students are in need of. I have two students who have a PICA disorder- they eat everything they see including non-toxic items.

I am a new autism teacher and I have very few motivating materials to assist autism students. I am trying to integrate safe non-choking materials that will provide sensory integration and improve fine motor skills.

My class is in need of The no-mess sandbox and sand to accompany it. It will be used daily before any writing activities to improve fine motor skills. It will also be used for sensory integration. The No-Mess Sandbox has the potential to entertain the autism students while at the same time to assist in improving fine motor skills. Due to the PICA nature of 2 of my students, we are unable to find many items that are safe for them to play with. This sand-box is enclosed in a case. They will insert their hands through fabric while playing with the sand. The sand is contained and can not come out into the classroom and into the mouths of these students. This activity will provide safe play for the students with the PICA behavior.

Your help will ensure that my students will be able to safely improve their fine motor skills while having fun at the same time. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated and remembered for years to come as the autism students are engaged in sensory integration play.
