I want to inspire my students to read for enjoyment. I teach 6th grade Language Arts. Around 70% of our students are on free and reduced lunch. Our students do not have a rich literacy background; meaning that very little reading and available books are in the homes.

I have found that all students love the requested book, and I can teach many standards using a novel they enjoy. My low readers beg me to read the book and ask to check it out so they can read it at home. If I had a class set of 25 books every student could read the book and enjoy the rich vocabulary and experience of enjoying a book. I will use the novel by Rick Riodan to capture the interest of all my students and provide creative methods of expressing themselves during a research project on gods, godesses, creatures and Titans from the book. I will need 25 books to create a class set. Each student will be able to hold, read and enjoy the novel.

I need one copy of The Lightning Thief by Rick Riodan for each student in my class; therefore, I will need 25 books. I will use this novel to help with reading fluency of my low readers, create interest in Greek Mythology to assign a research paper on a Greek god, goddess, creature or Titan, and teach creative writing/essay writing skills.

Your donation will empower my students to read and enjoy literature. Each student will be able to hold a book and dive into the adventure. I will also be able to allow students to check the books out to carry home and share with their parents and siblings. Most of my students are low readers. This donations can turn the non-readers into avid readers by discovering the true enjoyment of reading a novel.
