Obesity is killing our kids! I am a Middle School Physical Education Teacher in a very low income city.

The most common cause of death among people is cardiovascular disease. Just about 1 out of every 2 adolescents are overweight. As educators, we need to find ways to change this trend as they will not see the quality of life or quantity in years as we might have seen. With our economy the way it is now, we cannot afford to spend the amount of money that will be spent to deal with this problem in the medical field. We need to find a way to reverse this trend.

I would like to purchase 15 heart rate monitors to show the importance of fitness and what it can do for their lifestyle. Educating students at such a young age about their heart and how to take preventative measures can be one step in reversing the deadly trend. Technology will also serve as a motivation in that kids love to learn about themselves and how there body works. Students will be able to self-assess their health and well-being and be given the resources to maintain a happy and healthy life.

We are cutting the lives of our children short if we do not change the ever rising obesity epidemic.
