Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our school is putting on a musical! I teach at a K-8 public school in the South Bronx. While I teach 4th grade during regular school hours, last year I was also given the responsibility and the honor of being the executive director of the school’s first musical. Last year’s musical was a great success and we are hoping for even better with this Spring’s musical â€" Seussical! We’ve cast 30 kids in grades 3-8 who have already learned several of the shows 30+ songs! We received and iPod and an iPod cd boombox that has been enormously helpful in this process. Now we are ready to begin choreographing the numbers but we’ve hit a snag! We only have one cd boombox! Our choreographer (another teacher) has an iPod that she has downloaded the songs onto. All she needs is an iPod boombox. Unfortunately, we can’t share this resource because we split the cast into two separate groups to rehearse â€" she works on choreography while I work on blocking. That is why I am requesting one iPod cd boombox. With your support, our 30 budding actors and actresses will be able to participate fully in rehearsals. This will be another significant step towards these children participating in a truly wonderful experience that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
