It has long been a dream of mine to gather their written work and present it in a book worthy of their creativity and talent.
After this year's poetry unit which exposed them to poetic forms that they had never seen before, such as Clerihews, Credo and Pantoum poems, it broke my heart to see so much of their creative energy and talent get shoved into a folder. If we had a simple binding machine to go with the laminator that we were recently given through DonorsChoose, each child could select their best work and preserve it forever. It would also be a way for our class to meaningfully publish the other forms of writing we do each year such as our persuasive, expository and memoir pieces, and eventually share them with a much larger audience.
Having each student laminate and bind their work will give them a feeling of pride and professionalism. These professional presentations will validate their work in a way that a sticker never could. These sturdy pieces can then be preserved for their promotional folders.
In this proposal I am requesting a book binder and binding supplies so that I may take their best work and help them form books that they can be proud to show both their peers and families. Taking pride in their work is a huge confidence builder for my students and will hopefully help to strengthen the home-community partnership we attempt to build each and everyday.
My students need a book binding machine, paper and binder combs.
