Music Learning Stations Part 1

My students need 3 portable piano keyboards and music theory software.

Positive Power! I teach middle school general music in a poor rural community. All the schools, but two, have been labeled as failing according to NCLB standards.

My students come from a poor community where drug use and gang activity are considered to be the best options for young people. Many of my students cannot read and have a difficult time communicating with one another without physical altercation. As a music teacher I would like to provide a safe environment where the young people can learn another way to voice their concerns. My district has no money allocated to the music department. I have no instruments, student computers, stereo equipment, or Cd's. This is a hindrance to optimum mastery of music.

My first step to the solution is to purchase keyboards and software so the students can have hands-on practice with music theory. I am asking for four Yamaha keyboards where I can allow students to work on piano lessons and create their own songs. These keyboards will be used in learning stations.

Your donation will ensure that my students receive a foundation in music theory to be able to create their own musical compositions. The learners will learn a new way to organize their thoughts in a safe and peaceful manner.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
