My students need more materials that will help them build their literacy skills. I teach 3rd grade general education to quite a diverse range of learners. My classroom is comprised of special education students, English Language Learners, students with dyslexia, as well as regular education students. In addition, two-thirds of my class is considered to be "at-risk".

Fluency is directly connected to reading comprehension, but, as sad as it is, many children today do not have the opportunity to hear fluent reading modeled for them outside of the classroom.

In an effort to help my students build their confidence as readers, I would like to establish a listening library that would offer them an opportunity to read along with experienced narrators who demonstrate good pacing, intonation, and expression. While enjoying some of their favorite books on CD, my students will also be building their own accuracy, fluency, and comprehension.

Your help will enable my students to build their confidence as readers, thus allowing them to become more independent readers.
