The goal of my, K-2nd grade, World Cultures Enrichment/Spanish class is to develop an awareness of global citizenship and to begin to immerse children in a second language. Our community is one where most families struggle to earn or maintain a very basic standard of living. It is also a community with an increasing amount of children with special needs. Most families do not have the opportunity to understand the world beyond our small geographical area.

Our school's target language is Spanish. Along with learning the basics of our target language, I want children to learn about perspective. Students in my class learn to see and use world languages and cultures as a lens allowing them to become aware of the world as a global community. With this awareness, children can begin to understand how to act with responsibility, by both recognizing and fulfilling global obligations, and recognizing the rights of all human beings. Being connected to the world via a computer and the Internet would bring my efforts to a greater reality. If I had a projector I could also provide additional engaging activities that the entire class can participate in.

To bring my efforts to complete fullness, it would be helpful if I were equipped with technological tools to enhance my lessons and promote students' awareness of the interconnect-ability of the world. We need a laptop computer with computer software geared toward Spanish for kids, World Cultures and basic skills k-2, Britannica Profiles: Hispanic Heritage, CDs of Mexican Folk Dances and music, an overhead projector along with a cart to hold the projector and any educational and constructive materials.

I believe your generosity will help my students to be motivated, more engaged and to literally bring the world to their vision. Helping their academic progress is one in which I will be forever grateful.
