"We are in the desert! There are 24 of us in a cramped portable and we will use our fish tank as an outlet to the coastal world we can't get to. My students are in an economically depressed area and have never owned or really seen live fish before. This would be a great opportunity to expand their views.
My students live where there is less than 8 inches of rain each year. We have no rivers or lakes nearby. The ocean is a 5 hour drive away. We have no real aquarium to speak of. The only fish my students are exposed to are what they see in the supermarket. We want to broaden our horizons and see new forms of life.
The resources we need are very simple, fish and books. We have an empty aquarium ready to be filled with our little aquatic friends. Our library is ready to be filled with great books to compliment our fish. Our minds are ready to be filled with wonderful experiences.
Not only will you be exposing children in the desert to marine life, you will be broadening their interests. They will become better readers because they will be interested in the books to learn more about the fish we have. This grant really does make a difference because otherwise my students would never have this type of exposure.
My students need fish and snails to fill our aquarium. We also need a number of books to read about fish and other marine animals.

Dear Hoppy,
My class and I want to thank you immensely for the wonderful donation of fish, books, and materials. Your generous gift has increased our enjoyment of science and has given students with very little at home something to help care for and learn about. The goldfish have taught us about compassion and care for other living beings, as well as learning about fish and other underwater creatures. Even though the snails made an untimely departure the students were able to examine their shells and ultimately learned more than if they had remained in the fish tank. The various books you provided have given the students of all ability levels an opportunity to read and feel part of the classroom community when it comes to our wonderful pets. You have truly made a difference in my classroom and I thank you deeply for it.

Dear Hoppy,
Your donation will create many wonderful experiences, both educationally and emotionally for my students. True learning comes not from lectures or books, but from experiences and hands on experimentation. The fish, books, and all the other materials will create these learning experiences. My students will come to understand science and not fear it by learning the biology of fish. Hopefully they will become wonderful stewards of our planet when they can see how fragile these animals are, and read about all the difficulties our planet's waters have.
We all appreciate your generous donation, especially in these economic times. My class will become better learners because of it, and the other teachers in the school are already trying to find times to come into our room to experience your wonderful gift as well.
Reviewed the project essay and sent follow-up questions if needed.

"I gave to this project because I am a member of The Planted Tank, and I want to encourage another generation to enjoy planted aquariums. I also believe that our schools are our future, so I feel obligated to help where I can."
