I teach third grade in Virginia in a high need community. My students know that education is their ticket to a better life and they work very hard.

My class has been studying poetry and have gotten very excited about reading and writing it. They need to improve their oral fluency and public speaking skills, so we want to start a coffee house style poetry reading every Friday.

Right now we are doing our poetry readings in the classroom. We would really like to invite other classes to join us and hold it in a larger room, but it would be difficult to hear the students read their poetry. The Karaoke machine would give amplification to the readers so that the audience can hear them. The poetry books would give them a larger library from which to choose poems for the readings.

My class is so excited about their performances and would love to share them with the rest of the school. It would mean so much to them to inspire others to love poetry as much as they do. Your help will ensure that this group of students is ready for bigger and better things.
