" MORE "I teach 3rd grade in a high ELL, high need community in a CA public school that's rapidly losing funding.
My students LOVE mysteries. I love mysteries because students need to pay attention, pick up clues and recall what they read to be able to try to solve the mystery. Reading comprehension is often seen as WORK by students, but these mysteries and games will make it fun! One of the largest parts of the state test is reading comprehension. This is often a difficult task for young readers. This area is often where our students score the lowest. Next year, with more students being put in the classrooms, these will provide a FUN way to practice reading comprehension. Students will be engaged in reading and playing while I work with small groups, not just doing worksheets. I need a set of Mystery Reader comprehension stories with spyglass decoders. These 18 mystery stories are colorful and engaging. The mysteries ask students to solve the mystery and answer questions afterward. Students will want to see if they got the questions correct because they get to use the special decoders. They'll also want to see if they solved the mystery! The games library will make reading comprehension, fact/opinion, sequencing and predicting fun. The biggest shift from 2nd to 3rd grade is the students need to be able to read independently and also find meaning in what they are reading so they can enjoy it. Often this is the hardest aspect of 3rd grade and usually it feels like WORK. With these fun, engaging games and stories, students won't feel like they're doing WORK to build these essential skills. My ELL students, who struggle to read alone, will be able to actively participate in games with all students. Help turn an essential skill into an engaging activity that doesn't require students to do worksheets after reading. Help put the FUN back into reading! My students need Reading Comprehension Games and Mystery Readers. HIDEMs. Z.'s Classroom:
