I am a 3rd grade teacher in one tough neighborhood! Although our school is located in an area notorious for high rates of poverty and crime, my students love learning and their confidence in reading is soaring!

One of my goals is to ensure that my students develop a love of reading that will last a lifetime. However, my school only provides us with textbooks in which students read short excerpts from stories, and never get to read "real" books!

To make reading more exciting, I would like to introduce my students to more difficult books using literature circles. My students would work on reading the book and completing activities together in small groups of 4-5 students, with my occasionally dropping in to facilitate. This will allow them have discussions and also make each student accountable for reading. The titles I have selected are exciting, funny, or inspiring to my special groups of students.

Your help will ensure that my students get the books they need that will allow their love for reading to be nurtured and grow.
