"Our small school is located in one of the poorest congressional districts in the United States. Many of our students come to class unprepared simply because they cannot afford to purchase basic supplies.

Almost everyday, students will ask me for pens or pencils. Every year I provide students with pens and pencils that I purchased from my own funds, however, by mid-year, my supplies are usually exhausted.

My proposal is to provide all of my students with the same basic supplies so that individual students will not feel embarrassed to ask, nor will valuable class time be wasted as the student searches for something with which to write notes and assignments.

In this way all students will be equipped to succeed in school, earn higher grades and minimize disruptions to the learning process.

Students will also know that there are people in their community who care about them and their education. Your act of kindness and generosity will be long remembered by our students.

Thank you for your generosity.

My students need writing supplies that include hundreds of pencils, pens, erasers and sharpeners. The cost of this proposal is $550, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."

Dear Ms. G. E., Ron, Steven and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,
Today I gave each of my students a packet of pens, pencils, erasers and sharpeners. Everyone was so thankful, and truly appreciated the gift of school supplies. They were very shocked to learn that they did not come from me, but by a group of caring, concerned citizens in their community whom they have never met.

All of my students learned a valuable lesson today. You have shown them with this small gift that people do care about them and their education, and that it doesn't take much to become involved in a real and positive way in the lives of others.

Everytime my students sit down to do work, they will be reminded of the kindness of others. And, hopefully, when they are adults, they too will act to change the world for the better.

On behalf of myself, and all of my students, I most humbly thank you.

With gratitude,
Mr. O.

Dear Ms. G. E., Ron, Steven and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,

Thank you for your very thoughtful and generous gift.

My students will make good use the pens and pencils each and every day throughout the school year.

Such kindness is greatly appreciated, especially since my students have so few resources of their own. Every student will receive a gift bag filled with all of the tools necessary to start the school year off on the right foot. And although each package represents a small sum, I know that it will make a huge impact on each student.

Thank you for reminding me and my students that there are people in their communities who care about them and their education.

With gratitude,
Mr. O.
