"It's pretty rare in high schools that students get to have a "Movie Editing" class in between English and Math. I teach in a high-need population high school in New York, and with impending budget cuts, more schools are starting to cut classes not required for graduation. However, we're lucky that we still offer technology-based electives that give students an opportunity to showcase and hone their creativity.
My students use iMac computers to create their own music in Garageband, and then make a documentary of their neighborhood using iMovie. However, a lot of them are finding the audio is hard to manipulate with the headphones I currently have (sadly, ones I bought at the dollar store!!).
My students would greatly benefit from a pair of "studio quality" headphones that would be more sensitive to low frequencies and help cancel out external noises.
The good news is, you can help! With these headphones, my students will have more control over the details that make a strong soundtrack, and for those pursuing a media arts career, will have practice developing the skills they will use in college and in the industry. Your donation is GREATLY appreciated, and my students and I thank you!
My students need one set of studio quality headphones.

Dear Ursula, Lisa, Roseann, Diana, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Anonymous Donors,
First off, I must apologize that our thank you package is late in coming to you. It is not because we are ungrateful! I moved the units around in my technology class, and we did PhotoShop work for the first part of the school year. We have finally moved on to video/music production, and I unveiled the studio headphones. My students were so cute! They all obviously wanted to use them immediately the first day. Any system I came up with was immediately deemed unfair if they weren't the first ones to use them.
We've finally cycled through, and everyone has had a chance to use the headphones. Everyone (including myself) is amazed at how much bass the headphones can put out. They do a tremendous job at reproducing low frequencies that all the other headphones we have in class simply can't. Whenever a student wants to produce a beat or a bass, they wait for the Dr. Dre headphones.
Headphones aside, I respect and thank you for being so willing to give. We're so fortunate that there are individuals that give generously towards projects that enrich the children that we serve. We are all truly appreciative, and want you to know how much fun we are having with your gift!
With gratitude, Mr. H.

Dear Ursula, Lisa, Roseann, Diana, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Anonymous Donors,
Thank you so much for the headphones. My students and I are so excited for them to arrive! They are doing truly amazing work, and their work is about to get even better. It's comforting to know that there are many members of our community that recognize the needs of our students, and we appreciate your generosity in going the extra step and helping to fulfill those needs!
The students were giddy brainstorming today for different projects they'd like to do. The timing is perfect; there are several seniors that will use the headphones in making their 'senior slideshow' for graduation.
Reviewed the project essay and sent follow-up questions if needed.
