I teach elementary music in a high needs urban school district. Over 80% of the students I see each week are on Free or reduced lunch. about 76% of the students I teach come from families that speak English as a second language or not at all. These students have such a desire to learn and deserve to have every opportunity available to them.

Our school has a wonderful keyboard piano, but we are unable to use it because it must be hooked up to a speaker in order to work. The speaker we currently have is broken… it buzzes whenever we turn it on and the students are scared of it’s loud booms that give out occasionally. To help us with our lack of piano sound, I am asking donors to help. In addition to not having a proper speaker for our piano, I have recently been diagnosed as having vocal nodules (which are tiny little bumps on your vocal folds which could prevent me from using my voice for singing in the future) because I am constantly singing with the students to try to develop their singing voices. To help magnify my voice without compromising the material that I am teaching to my students I am asking for Donors to help.

My students and I would love to have a powered speaker that we can hook a variety of equipment into including: keyboards, microphones, guitars, a cd player, a tape player, and even a record player. Having a powered speaker would help us use ALL of the curriculum materials we have in our room instead of limiting it to cds...some of the best pieces of music literature are often found on old records and we cant currently play them because we don’t have a speaker we can hook everything into.

YOU will make it possible for me and my students to demonstrate proper vocal health care. You will enable me to teach my students to my fullest without worrying about my voice. You will enable my students to learn proper healthcare techniques for their own singing voices. You will enrich our curriculum by offering us the ability to play ALL media types. You will help us FINALLY connect the keyboard piano to a speaker that works so we can sing with the piano.
