Lights, Camera, SCIENCE!

My students need a digital video camera to create interactive science videos.

I teach economically disadvantaged students with learning deficiencies the joy of physical science in a rural high school. These students have very little, if any exposure to technology such as computers and video cameras outside of school. Many of my students do not even have personal cameras in their household.

These 9th grade students have a natural curiosity for the subject matter of physical science but sometimes have trouble grasping the concepts. In order to counteract this problem, I developed a program entitled "Lights, Camera, SCIENCE". In coming up with the idea for the program, I remembered the saying that 'one never truly learns until he teaches it'. This coupled with my students interest in self-produced videos led me to the program idea.

My students need a digital video camera to produce interactive science videos for the program, Lights, Camera, SCIENCE! The digital video camera will allow my students to produce their own high quality videos covering physical science concepts that they will share with younger students. Lights, Camera, SCIENCE! is a program designed to incorporate video technology into science education. The physical science students will create informative science videos to share with elementary students as they only have 20 minutes for science each day. The videos will be fun and interactive and appeal to the elementary learner. This will impact all involved, especially the physical science students as often heard, "one never truly knows something until he teaches it for himself". The students will have the opportunity to more deeply explore physical science topics in order to present the topics on the videos. The benefit for the students will be priceless. In addition to creating a greater understanding of science topics which present trouble for many, the students will also have an impact on younger students who naturally look up to them. The younger students will always remember the impact that the h

Your support will make it possible for my students to gain not only an understanding of physical science, but the priceless improvement in their self-esteem and confidence. With your help, my students will realize that they can do and become whatever they desire.
