Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My classroom consists of primarily high-performing students from an economically deprived background. I teach Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies to 30 students in 4th grade in a high-need community.

Reading the newspaper or watching educational/informational programs on TV are activities my students would not do on their own. But when such activities are conducted in class, they respond positively. Exposing them to additional sources of information would broaden their knowledge of the world and current events.

To provide an additional information source and the encourage Reading, it would be a great asset to give them access to the Weekly Reader.

Providing the students with the Weekly Reader will excite them to read and learn about events that they would otherwise be unaware of and not covered in traditional classroom teaching material.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
