Building Brains Through Freaky Learning!

My students need 20 copies of "Freakonomics" and 1 copy of "From Economics Imperialism to Freakonomics".

I teach 10th grade students in South Carolina. My students are as diverse as anywhere in the US, all races, socioeconomic classes, and countries of origin. As a tourist community we have an enormous amount of students who are migratory. We face a huge challenge in keeping these kids in school.

Last year when I was teaching Economics, I read a part of the book Freakonomics to my students. They were enraptured! I have students who are gang members in the same class as students whose parents own hotels and resorts. This book really brought them together and inspired awesome conversation.

It's a fact: high school students talk better than they do anything else. My job is to get them to talk to each other and learn about economics. This book makes kids talk, discuss, debate, and most importantly, question. Reading this book will improve their reading skills as well as their reasoning skills. They need both of these things to be successful in life wherever it takes them!

Your help will make it possible for my students to learn through reading, writing, and discussion. Our textbooks are outdated and dry- Freakonomics is none of the above!
