Hi, I teach 3rd grade in a low SES area in Texas. My focus is Math and Science. I have a challenging group of kids who have been through more than I can imagine!

Here is the deal. I am a first year teacher and I have very little. On top of this, I am getting a group of students who have been through several teachers each year since first grade. They have had teacher after teacher quit on them, and sub after sub after sub! One subject that always got pushed to the side with the high turnover, was SCIENCE! These kids will be tested on material in 5th grade on the TAKS test, some of which, for instance the Solar System, is only taught in third grade! Unfortunately, as a new teacher I have very little in terms of supplies and ideas for stimulating and memorable experiments and activities.

I am asking for Science kits and literature to stimulate high interest for units that are tested in 5th grade. Two of the units that we will work on after we receive our materials are the plants and animals units! This is an extremely important unit that will be built upon in the 4th and 5th grades. It is extremely important that my students are set up with a good knowledge base, or foundation for future learning. When the unit is fun, exciting, and memorable our students learn. When the unit is exciting, it makes them excited to learn MORE! With these kits, I know my students will crave more science! This will set them up for SUCCESS on the TAKS in future years.

With your help my students will engage in fun and memorable activities that will set them up for success on the fifth grade TAKS test. In addition, students will be curious and excited to explore and learn about the world around us! Help me create a community of Science learners!
