"I am a full day kindergarten teacher at an inner city elementary school. My students are second language learners, learning English as their second language. Every year I have at least 20 students. Over 90% of my students receive free or reduced lunch status. My students love to come to school. They are rarely absent. Most of my students live in 1 room apartments or studios.
Most of the parents work long hours, 6 days a week and are unable to volunteer in the classroom. They also do not speak English. My energetic 5-year-olds are always excited to come to school and learn. My classroom is a place where my students feel safe and comfortable to explore and learn. Being second language learners, they need many different activities to develop their oral English. One activity that encourages and develops their oral language is singing.
Having a CD player and various CDs will help my students develop their English language. The materials I am requesting will last many years and will help many kindergarteners learn English in a fun and natural way. The CDs that I am requesting teach and reinforce concepts and vocabulary for the alphabet, colors, numbers, shapes, telling time, parts of the body, forms of transportation, and safety. The concepts and vocabulary are important to all kindergarten students to learn. The songs are simple and easy to learn which will encourage all of my students to participate and become successful learners.
Your generosity will make it possible for my students to learn and develop their oral English language while singing and having fun!
My students need 1 CD player/cassette recorder and 1 "Learning Basic Skills Through Music" CD set.

Dear Jim, Doug, RS Investments, aveseo, Mrs. Barber, Kara, Jose, Ingrid, Laurie, Dr. Judith Coe, Gardner, Kerry and Anonymous Donors,
My kindergarten students and I want to thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. I received the set of CDs and CD player at the end of last school year. I was able to try out the materials with my kindergarten students to review the alphabet, colors, numbers, shapes, time and other concepts with them before promoting them to first grade.
This year with a new group of kindergarten students who are also second language learners, I am so fortunate to have these materials available in my classroom to help them learn and develop their oral English language. The CD player has a great feature which controls the speed of the CD. Being able to slow down the songs allows all the students to sing along and feel successful. My students are having fun and learning!
My students and I are truly thankful and grateful to everyone for funding this project! With the decreasing funds to schools, many students would have very limited resources without generous donors like you!
With gratitude, Mrs. L.

Dear Jim, Doug, RS Investments, aveseo, Mrs. Barber, Kara, Jose, Ingrid, Laurie, Dr. Judith Coe, Gardner, Kerry and Anonymous Donors,
My kindergarten students and I want to thank you for your generosity and support! We are so excited to get a new CD player and a set of CDs.
My old CD player was malfunctioning. With the new CD player my students will able to hear the words clearly and correctly. We sing a lot throughout the day, because singing allows and encourages every student to participate. The new set of CDs will help reinforce vocabulary and concepts that I have taught throughout the school year. The new materials will definitely help my students develop their oral English language while having fun.
My students and I are truly grateful to everyone for funding this project!
Reviewed the project essay and sent follow-up questions if needed.

"I gave to this project because...I believe music and the arts are an integral part of education. Young students can learn so much more easily by incorporating the arts into curriculum and it in an exceptional, creative outlet for all young people as they grow into themselves."
