"I have a classroom full of creative first graders! My school has a high percentage of English as a Second Language students, and students on free and reduced lunch. We work hard to give the less advantaged students opportunities that they might not otherwise have!
Some of the things that we like to do in first grade involve more than pencil and paper. We love to do projects that allow students to create. These projects sometimes go along with a holiday, sometimes with a book we read. On special occasions such as Christmas, Mother's Day, and Valentine's Day, we like to give the kids a chance to make something special as a gift to take home. This way, they are being creative AND having a chance to practice generosity.
With our classroom budgets cut to a bare minimum, there is no longer money for the extras like craft supplies. If we want to provide projects we often have to supply the materials ourselves.
You can help by supplying my classroom with a large variety of craft supplies. There are many projects we do throughout the school year that the students take home to give as gifts or keep for themselves. At Christmas, we make Reindeer ornaments for gifts that require craft sticks, yarn, and wiggle eyes. At Valentines Day we make picture frames from CD cases and decorate them with items, including the colorful buttons you will provide. By supplying us with the tacky glue and glue gun, we will not need to run out and purchase these items, they will last for a whole school year, probably longer. You will provide a set of oil pastels for each table group to share, allowing us to create illustrations for the stories we write in class, as well as other fun pictures to decorate our walls. These are just a few examples of how your generous donation will be used. In addition, I plan to share these supplies with the other two first grade teachers in my building, so you will be helping even more first graders with their CRAFTY CREATIVITY!
Thank you so much for considering my proposal on Donorschoose.org! Sometimes with budget cuts the arts and crafts items are the first to be eliminated. Thanks to you, the kids can continue to create! The students will benefit so much from your generosity!
My students need a hot glue gun with glue refills, colored tissue paper, oil pastel sets, colored pom poms, a variety of colored yarn, wiggle eyes, craft sticks, colorful buttons, craft fluffs and tacky glue!

Dear Kate, Julianna, Kiirsten, Emily, Susan, Lynne and Anonymous Donor,
Thank you so much for supporting my classroom project! It was so exciting to get our huge box of craft supplies that we can turn into projects. We began using the supplies immediately, by making a Mother's Day bookmark that used the yarn you provided!
I
have always found it important to let students be creative in the
classroom. Students need many opportunities to create with a variety of supplies.
Unfortunately, there isn't always money left in the budgets to supply these things.
Thank you so much for helping to provide more great right brain opportunities in my classroom. It was very generous of you to help my students! Please continue to
support this great site and spread the word about it!
With gratitude, Mrs. S.

Dear Kate, Julianna, Kiirsten, Emily, Susan, Lynne and Anonymous Donor,
You probably wouldn't be surprised to hear that there is often not money for the "extras" in public education. That is why I can't thank you enough for helping to fund my project, Crafty Creativity, Let Our Right Brains Shine! With this large assortment of craft and art supplies you are providing, my first grade students will be able to create many things. My fellow teachers and I feel it is important for students to be able to use their creativity to make gifts for their parents on holidays and occasions like Mother's Day. In the past, we have bought supplies with our own money to do this. I am very grateful for your donation to supply my craft cupboard! These supplies will help students create something to be proud of. We will be able to complete many projects with these resources. Thank you so much for supporting my project and for supporting the DonorsChoose.org site! I hope you continue to support and spread the word about this great site for teachers and students!

"I gave to this project because...
I am an artist and I think that the best therapy for any soul is to create.. It gives a huge feeling of accomplishment inside a person.
Right now I create Dolls as a One of A Kind Doll maker and I have invented a glaze for artists to use.
This is a very important cause to me."
