A great and fun way to share your learning is to create a book about what you have learned. I teach a 2nd/3rd grade multi-age inclusion classroom in an urban school district. Everything we do at our school involves reading and writing. My students love to write stories - both fiction and non-fiction.

We do an amazing study of animals titled "Sharing the Planet" each year. As a part of this unit we study non-fiction writing during our Writing Workshop time. Each student then publishes their own non-fiction book on a selected animal that is then shared during our unit end celebration. These books are traditionally made on paper that is then stapled together to create a book.

The published non-fiction books are some of the best writing the students do all year. They really take the time to research their animals and develop their books to include the elements of non-fiction books like sub-titles, headings, and table of contents. The stapled books we use take away from the amazing work the students have produced. We need hard bound blank books to publish these masterpieces in. My students can then use animal stencils and foam stickers to help embellish their books and fine-tip markers to make their writing stand out. The product these materials will help us create will be one that the students can treasure for a life-time. Plus, it will take an already engaging writing experience to the next level.

You will make it possible for my students to create these beautiful treasures. With your help when I hand them their hard bound blank book to write their non-fiction animal stories in they will know how important I believe their writing is.
