I have the privilege to teach a 1st through 5th grade special education class. The students have moderate cognitive disabilities. Our students are very poor, and over 85% of students receive free or reduced lunch. My students do have desks therefore, keeping materials together becomes quite a chore!

Too often special education students are at the bottom of the supply totem pole. My job as a teacher is to take nothing and turn it into something. My students have short attention spans and very poor memories. They often lose their materials and their classwork. We do not have desks in our room, only tables therefore organization is a huge problem. Organization is a life skill that needs to be taught, and what a better and fun way than with colorful drawers that they can call their own.
