My students need 6 sets of tempera paint cakes in primary colors and 3 sets of of tempera paint cakes in secondary colors.

I teach an amazing class of 24 second graders at a year-round school. We have over 1,000 students at our school. There are seven classes of second graders alone. My students have tremendous differences in their abilities, but we all love art. When it is art time, our differences disappear and communication begins.

With a school our size, most of our budget goes to provide our students with just basic supplies like crayons, pencils and scissors. There isn't much for extras like paint. The few times that we have been able to paint, my students have been so excited. They ask me all the time when we can paint again. Unfortunatel, I don't have the supplies to paint with them as often as I would like. The last time we painted, we also wrote stories to go with our pictures. They were so enthused as they wrote all about their paintings and they wrote so much more than they usually would because of their involvement in the project. Using art materials really brings out their creative side and builds their self esteem. Art can enrich every part of of curriculum.

If we had the dry tempera paint cakes, four students could share one tray. They are not as messy as liquid tempera paint and all my students could paint at once. Clean up would up easy and the paint cakes easy to store when we have to rotate to a new room. If we had these paint sets, we would use them to illustrate our class authored big books and we would use them for science and social studies projects. We also study famous artists and these paints would help us try out different painting styles. There are so many possibilities for exciting projects to be tried.

My students and I would be thrilled to have these materials. Your donation would be put to great use. We would use them over and over, and because it's dry tempera paint cakes they will last for several years without needing to be replaced. I believe that every student deserves to find ways to express themselves through the arts. You will help me to provide that for these wonderful kids. Second grade art is truly amazing in it's creativity and simplicity of expression. Thank you for reading my proposal and for any help you can give us. We do appreciate all the help we receive.
