Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

San Diego's low socio-economic students are finding a love for reading in the classroom.

I teach first grade at a Title One school in South-East San Diego. First grade is when students learn how to read. Unfortunately, most of my students only get to practice their reading in the classroom due to the fact that their homes lack literature or parent support. Each of my students have a cardboard reading box that contains their reading books. I bought the boxes in September and now they are completely destroyed. Books are spilling out onto their desks.

I would love to have durable reading boxes that I could use each year and they would not break in three months. I would use the pockets to write their reading goal for the week on a index card and insert it into the pocket.

You would help teach my students about organization as well as eliminate the distraction of falling/breaking reading boxes. My students could focus on their reading to make them better readers and students.
