Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a teacher in a metro area school where funds for student organizations are limited. I am the sponsor for two student organizations and the yearbook. I sponsor Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the 2M2L: Too Much To Lose (a teen group that tries to stop underage drinking within the student body). At times we host events for the students, but do not have the supplies to put signs in the hallways and have to keep borrowing from the art teacher. She has a small budget herself, and will not always be able to supply us with what we need. My students also decorate the halls and lockers for ball games and sporting events.

My school is about 94% free and reduced lunch and we have little parent involvement. My children are very much about doing for others especially the students in our building. My building is grades 6-12 and the high school students love doing things for the younger students.

The art supplies, including markers and various types of paper, will allow us to decorate the halls for students and staff when they have done great things. It will also allow us to help other organizations decorate who do not have the supplies to do so.

By donating supplies to my organizations, my students will be empowered to give back! FCA and 2M2L are both organizations in which the students have to do community service outside the school. I believe that students should give back just like others have given to them.
