Learning Can Be Magic!

My students need a set of 22 Magic Boards and two set of Vocabulary and Phonics practice cards for Magic Boards.

I teach a class of 20 mostly minority and low-income third graders in a Title 1 school. Our student body receives almost 70% free and reduced lunch. Families lack discretionary funds for even the most basic school supplies, and our district funding for materials has been slashed.

Test scores statewide show a decline overall in third graders year-after-year, and our school is no exception. We are in search of ways to increase learning in our students while keeping them engaged at the same time. The area that needs attention is Language Arts.

"Magic Boards" use a special pen and eraser system that students use by inserting a card and answering the questions posed to them by filling in the blanks. The cards are self-checking and highly engaging. Students are able to improve vocabulary development including synonyms, antonyms, prefixes and suffixes, root words, homophones, and multiple meaning words with the vocabulary cards. They will also be able to decode words, blend phonemes, and recognize words and spelling patterns with the phonics cards.

Please help improve the basics of language learning in my students by supplying these special tools. When kids think they are "playing," learning improves. Using hands-on materials increases students attention span and helps "anchor" the lesson in their minds. Learning and having fun at the same time. . . what could be better!
