"I teach adolescent students with severe disabilities in a high school serving a disproportionately economically disadvantage population.

Generally my students have not learned how to meet their caloric needs with a well-balanced nutritionally sound diet.

We have identified food look-alike manipulatives from all the food groups which will add a realistic touch to lessons on food and health. Many of my students are unable to identify various food items on site. The manipulatives will help them to overcome this problem. Students will also be able to sort the manipulatives into the food group that corresponds to the food pyramid that represents the recommended dietary intake. They can thus construct and more easily internalize a variety of daily meal plans.

Your help will make it possible for my students to gain a better understanding of important nutrition concepts through hands-on nutrition lessons. hide»

My students with severe disabilities need durable play food and grocery sets, along with a Nutrition Instant Learning Center and a Nutrition Lotto set. details»

Dear The Radial Group and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,

My students, my staff and I are very grateful to you for funding our proposal for hands-on nutrition lessons. My students will benefit greatly from your generosity. As you undoubtedly know, it is very important to learn how to meet one's caloric needs with a well-balanced nutritionally sound diet. We can hardly wait to receive the food-alike manipulatives from all the food groups. Christmas came early this with a wonderful beginning.
