"We're a high needs Title I free lunch eligible NYC public school whose international community of first generation Americans values education as the key to a successful future. Our school includes every possible type of classroom and we are proud of our diversity. This class is eager and willing to work hard and our motivation, our many countries of origin (We speak over 40 languages!)and our vision for 21st century learning using technology compensates for what we lack financially. We see our diversity as our wealth.

Children understand the power of video and how it can support literacy and science! The cost of this flip video mino HD (so small and simple) may seem inexpensive but a couple of hundred dollars is beyond our financial grasp with no prospects as a Christmas gift for families struggling to make ends meet. Education is the hope of our families to help their children realize the American dream, and technology, no matter how simple or small, is a must if students are to compete in the public arena for jobs in the future.

Flip video mino HD is a small video camera no larger than the iPods on the market. It takes up to 1 hour of high quality video and has within this simple device sound, video display and editing software. You just plug it into your computer (in the USB port -- sometimes hard to reach on the older computers that we have) and edit your audio and video.

Imagine students creating literature reviews and environmental science findings when on field trips in our urban neighborhood. We could even post our videos, and it's easy to use for minimal roadblocks. With young students the technology has to be accessible if you want to develop and complete projects that will give students a sense of pride and achievement and pride. Small, simple, and relatively inexpensive, yet beyond our financial means with even more budget cuts looming for public education. Parents cannot be asked to make up the shortfall when basic necessities are the priority and even those are a challenge to fund. My students could create their own podcast reviews (using The NY Times as a model) and develop their own science findings harnessing 21st century tools. We could even create our own book nook hook with vodcasting (video podcasting).

My students need a flip digital video camera and a set of USB cables. The cost of this proposal is $350, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."

Dear The Seminerios, Timothy, josephine, The Liggetts and Anton Seminerio's grand parents,
What a marvelous video recorder!  It has high definition and quality and audio are terrific.  On a large TV screen the videos look wonderful!  The camera came with the cable to plug into the television and we were able to watch (as a class) the results of our work.
We have already started using it and the software already comes in this small video device.  No need to buy additional editing software!  You just plug in the Flipvideo camera with its USB connection and the editing software automatically installs on the desktop with an icon. The camera is PC and Mac compatible so it works on all platforms.  My students had this up and running in minutes and its ease of use goes to show that this flipvideo camera is accessible to children 9 years old.  Now that's a powerful tool and a great motivator.  Watch for our videos online because we're already in production.

Thank you for having the vision to fund a 21st century multimedia tool that is fun and instructional. This year video is "in" and we're ready!  We love using the camera and it's always in use.  Now that's a contribution to a classroom!

With gratitude,
Mrs. A.

Dear The Seminerios, Timothy, josephine, The Liggetts and Anton Seminerio's grand parents,
Thank you for your generosity in funding our video proposal. The students will now be able to create the video projects we so much want to develop. This incredible resource not only takes one hour of audio and video, but comes with its own editing software embedded. It plugs into the computer via USB and that makes this technology most accessible to my 9 and 10 year old students. Ease of use, portability, and high quality video will be able to be applied across the curriculum as we create digital documentaries from the child's point of view. This is a powerful tool for enhancing literacy in a 21st century environment. Thank you for this marvelous technology. My students and I are grateful.

Sincerely,
Neme
