My classroom is unique in the fact that we have children from many different backgrounds who have all had many different life experiences before coming to my Kindergarten class. Because our world is so focused on technology and everything is being communicated through it, my students need to have experiences with it.

Many of my students come to school each day, participate in the activities that we do together, but don't really ABSORB and LEARN what it is we did that day. I would also like to strengthen the connection between home and school and help to educate parents about how they can best help their children (and younger siblings too!) at home.

I would like to have this set of digital video camcorders for my classroom so that my students and I could record the activities that happen in our classroom each day. If I see a student struggling with a concept or idea, I can upload the video to my computer and burn it on a DVD or upload it to my classroom blog for all my Kindergarten students and their families to see. On a weekly basis, we have many opportunities for my students to participate in oral retelling, math, language, drama, writing, and science activities. It would be wonderful if I could share some of these activities with my students over and over again until I was sure that they had fully grasped the concept or idea I was teaching. After showing them how to use them, I would also like to put these cameras in to the hands of my students and let them work in small group situations to film and voice experiences that they would like to record and share with their families. From a teacher's perspective, I would like to film short movies that families could borrow on many topics such as; how to share books with their children, how to point to text when reading, how to form letters, and how to help their child learn letter sounds

Your help will ensure that my students are able to have other options for learning if they are not successful the first time. You will also provide an important connection between school and home and help me show parents what we do everyday and how they can help.
