As a teacher, I find myself in a position where I need to compete for the attention of these diverse students living in a high-tech world. I teach 8th grade Language Arts in an inner city school with a diverse student population. These students live in a world much different from the world many of us lived in at this age. They are accustomed to high stimulation learning such as video games, computers, and various media and technology.

Most of the time, it is difficult to hook the interest of these students. We no longer live in a "worksheet" world, but we must find a way to involve them in learning. I had previously worked with a teacher who had access to a Jeopardy Game, and it was amazing to watch how the students became so involved in the learning process.

With a Jeopardy Game for my classroom, I would reach 100 students per Semester, some who otherwise would not be motivated to learn Language Arts. I would be able to set up lessons with the program, and watch the students experience learning on their terms -- not mine. Empowering the students in this way would allow them to learn in a way that they can relate to. It is my belief that we, as educators must do whatever is necessary to motivate our students. We must grow with the times, not fight against them.

With your donation, you will help to ensure that my students are able to relate to the material in a way that is enjoyable for them. This is their world -- a world of computers, ipods, video games, cell phones, etc. I say, "Don't beat'um, join'um." With that said, I want you to know that I will do whatever I need to do to help these students in not only learning, but wanting to learn. Students looking forward to my class is the first step in making them look forward to learning. Our world depends on these kids for the future. Won't you please help me help them?
