My students need a laptop computer in order to be able to utilize the LeapPads sitting in storage. This will allow me to monitor their progress via the computer.

I am a primary resource teacher currently working both in and out of the classroom with an amazing bunch of eager and motivated first and second graders. These incredible kids work so hard and always do their best. Due to a lack of resources at home, people to work with and other things many of us take for granted, these students have fallen behind. My goal is to get them back on track and up to speed with small group instruction. A computer for the resource room would be a tremendous asset. Because each child is on a different level, they require a lot of one on one instruction. A computer would allow students to utilize the magnificent literacy and educational programs the school has while enabling me to spend more time with each student. The school currently has the leap pad system but without a computer to keep track of the students’ progress it is useless. A computer would allow me to download level specific skills and strategies for each child while monitoring their progress using the leapfrog cartridge software. They would be able to work and read independently using their own individual leapfrog pad. A computer would provide unlimited opportunities for my students to work on their phonemic awareness, decoding skills, fluency and comprehension through wonderful online sites and most importantly through the use of leap pads. There is a wealth of resources out there if one has the means to access it all. These students learn best using visual aids. A computer would provide them with the necessary visual aid while they continue to build self esteem. Due to your generosity, students will have a resource that will allow me to provide more individual learning time while they “independently” master skills. If you have ever seen a child truly understand a complex concept or beam with pride having accomplished a goal, you understand what I work towards each and every day. This tool, while expensive, will help so many children become confident, life long learners for years to come.
