Lights, Camera, Action!

My students need 3 web cameras which will equip each computer in our classroom with one.

Funny faces and different voices. Creative personalities. Sharing ideas and publishing works. Laughing and enjoying learning. All of these factors are vital to a fun, inspiring, and growing classroom. I plan to capture these essential ideas by using web cameras in my classroom. I teach 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, & 6th grade gifted students at a High Poverty level school. I believe that these students are the future of our community and deserve every opportunity to stimulate their learning and give them experiences that will make their education meaningful and memorable.

In the world of education, teachers have the wonderful responsibility of inspiring our students and motivating them to learn. We can teach and teach and teach, but unless we have engaged our students and they are interested in learning, we will not get the desired results. By having web cameras in my classroom, I can "hook" my students and provide a motivation for learning and participating in class.

With these web cameras, my students will be able to express themselves in a variety of ways not normally available. In a normal classroom, students learning about the five kingdoms in science could research, write a report, and read it to the class. In a classroom equipped with web cameras, my students could research and write the same report, but publish their work with the use of a web camera. These cameras would allow my students to video themselves reading their report while adding in fun filters and video masks. It would also give my students the option to compile their research into a news report and use voice inflection and feeling to entertain their audience while giving information. Another option is for my students to create an avatar and have a character deliver their research. When my students know they will have the ability to publish their work in these fun and creative ways, this will motivate and encourage them to perform their best. With 3 web cameras, each computer in our classroom would have one. This allows groups to work on projects simultaneously. When projects are completed, we can come together to discuss the information presented and enjoy these stimulating projects.

If someone asked you to invest in the future of our society, would you? I truly believe that my group of 36 gifted students are a significant part of the next generation. I also know that my students need an incredible amount of motivation and encouragement to support them along their journey. Your help will make it possible to bring life and personality to our school and, without a doubt, inspire a love for learning in our classroom.
