I teach about 370 boys, from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade, who crave BOY BOOKS! Action, army, gross, disgusting, funny - that's what they need and we don't have enough of. We are a new school with a basic "opening day" collection.

The US Department of Education reading tests for the last 30 years have shown that boys score lower than girls every year, in every age group. Eighth-grade boys are 50% more likely than girls to be held back a year in school. Our boys test slightly lower than our girls. We want to show boys that reading is cool and pump up their abilities.

We are starting a Guys Read Club, where boys and an adult male in their family will be encouraged to read together. They need "guy-awesome" books that will excite their interest in reading.

Boys are used to seeing females reading - teachers, librarians, moms. They need to see men as reading role models. You can provide the boys and their adult guys with books that will get them hooked on reading for life.
