Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Kids with autism equals intense instruction. I teach six students with autism: 5 are in 3rd grade, 1 is in 5th grade. Three of my students are included in the general education class for the core subjects, and come to me for social skills training. My school is a Title 1 school, with more than 75% receiving free and reduced lunch.

The biggest challenge is finding age-appropriate reinforcers. My students, despite being 8-10 years old, still like to play and talk about toys that a 3 year-old uses. I am always trying to teach my students how to play and/or talk about things that their typical peers do.

By using the Didj game systems around their typical peers, my students will be able to behave more like their typical peers. This will further help them achieve a better quality of life as they learn to engage in age-appropriate activities.

Children with autism typically have deficits in their social, communication, and behavior skills. Purchasing the Didj's will help my students increase their social skills and opportunities to engage in social interactions.
