I am a Guidance Counselor at a local Indiana Middle School. I counsel students in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. My students are in a high need area, where many have emotional concerns.

Many of my students are not fortunate enough to experience having a Nintendo Wii System. It has been proven by the University of Pennsylvania that the Wii system, because of the interactive and physical nature of the game, allows individuals to release stress. This would be ideal for my counseling office where I think "outside of the box" in terms of ways my students can receive therapy.

I see a diverse population of students who come from a variety of different backgrounds. Many long for the chance to release their aggression and anger when they encounter stressful situations, but they want to release this appropriately. Having a cart with a TV and a Wii system will enable my students to release their emotions in a healthy manner. They would love to use the guitar hero game to do this, as well as it giving them an appreciation of music.

If you choose to fund this project, your help will empower my students to learn appropriate ways to release their anger and frustration without resorting to fighting, yelling, and cursing. It will give them the tools that they need to remove themselves from a stressful situation, and it will also motivate them because they will know that in the Counseling Office they can release their stress in a fun and productive manner.
