Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

This book motivates the unmotivated. I teach 8th grade Language Arts to several very low skilled readers. I need high interest books that will grab their attention and keep it.

Many of my students have parents who don't speak English but want their children to do well. Other students come from broken families who have so many issues at home that reading is the farthest thing from their minds -- and it shows in the students' skills.

The book I would like to receive, Sleeping Freshman Never Lie, is one that is funny; yet there is a seriousness to what lay ahead for 8th graders in high school. Eighth graders will be enticed by the humor in the book and the real life (current) situations that they can relate to. Some students may learn to appreciate or even love literature a little bit because of this novel.

Your help in donating these novels could really turn a nonreader into a reader. The biggest problem with low performing students today is the inability to read well. A high interest book like this could inspire them to enjoy reading. You can make the difference.
