Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I work in a title 1 school where many of my students have never been farther than their neighborhoods. Far away places such as Kenya in Africa or Beijing in China are just in their dreams.

But there is a way they can visit and learn about these wonderful places, and that is through technology. If I could have one or two lap tops, I could teach my students how to create virtual field trips of their dream places as well as navigate the INTERNET to gather information for their projects. For example, we are doing a unit about Puerto Rico and its culture through the internet my students can watch videos about the different beautiful places in the country like the rain forest of "El Yunque" or the historic "Morro". My students can not visit the country phisically but they can do it through the internet. This can also help in our up coming units too.

We only have one computer with INTERNET access so two more computers will be a great tool in facilitating my students' learning. Most of them do not have computers in their homes because their parents cannot afford them or take them to the public library so the only place where they can use a computer is in the classroom.

I think my students will benefit a lot if I am able to teach them with the right tools and help develop their technology skills. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide us with. We will be very grateful.
