Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our school media center is alive and buzzing with the sounds of kids excited about research. Kids love to learn more about the topics they are interested in, from animals to weather to famous people and more. Can you imagine how excited they would be to see themselves and their classmates sharing their research on TV or on podcasts? My fourth and fifth graders are working hard this year to implement the Big 6 Research Model. When asked "What are some ideas for presenting the information you have learned?," they generally tell me that they can write a paper, make a poster, or other common ideas. Rarely do they ever tell me that they could make a video. When I tell them that they could if we had a camera for them to use, they get very excited about the possibilities. You can help make this possibility a reality by purchasing a Flip video camera for our media center. The Flip Video camera is very kid-friendly, making it an excellent way for students to learn how to make and share videos in a way that lets them learn, research, and have fun! My students have such limited access to books and technology outside of the school setting. Being able to make their own videos would be a dream come true for these students who overcome great obstacles to be successful everyday.
