My students need a digital camera to capture those picture perfect learning moments that happen daily in the classroom!

Fourth graders are vivacious learners. They are responsible, confident, and produce innovative and creative projects. Our school directly serves Section Eight housing where low-income families are currently living. Parents work full time and are unable to help their children with homework or extra curricular activities. Many households do not have computers for their children to use for schoolwork. In the ever growing tech-savvy world, it is essential for our students to have the technology skills to thrive in their future careers. During the school day, my students are not only learning the academic content, but also valuable technology skills. It is important for my students to understand the basics of computers and working with word documents. After that, I continue to build on their knowledge by teaching them to create publications and PowerPoint presentations. These skills will help prepare my students to be more competitive in their careers. Many of my students do not have the resources to learn these skills at home. I believe these technology skills are important, and make it a point to spend time teaching them at school. I use technology in my lessons daily to help make lessons more engaging and interactive. Over the past few months, I conducted a Masters research study in my classroom about the effects of technology in the classroom. It was obvious that students became more engaged in learning when teachers used technology to create interactive lessons. Using computers and technology in the classroom, allowed students to demonstrate their knowledge through creative avenues. To further help my students, I am asking for a small donation of a digital camera. This tool will help my students capture those “picture perfect” learning moments. A digital camera will allow my students to document Science labs they have created, classroom presentations, and other hands-on experiences like field trips. With your help, my students will use the digital camera to document their learning. I plan to have my students become experts in various academic fields, demonstrate their knowledge, and share it with their peers. This technology will allow my students to show understanding of concepts through more creative paths. Instead of taking traditional pen and paper tests, my students can create slide shows and PowerPoint presentations about a topic. We all learn in various ways, I want to give my student the opportunity to share their knowledge in a way that’s meaningful to them.
